Small Group Counseling

One of the ways that we work to meet the needs of our students is through small group counseling sessions.  These groups are made up of 3-6 students, who focus on a specific area of need.  We meet in 30-45 minute sessions for 6-7 weeks.  These groups are a lot of fun for both the students and for US!

These are just a few of the groups that we run:

"Star Students"

These students work on developing skills that will help them to be successful in school, and in life.  They work on organization, homework completion, note taking, neatness, and other study skills that are important for good students to learn.  Goal setting is also an important part of this group process.

"Girl Talk"

These students focus on feeling good about themselves and recognizing the traits that make them special!  These girls take time to learn about themselves and their uniqueness, as well as getting to know others.

Social Skills

This group helps students to learn skills to help them be successful in life, and in social settings.  They discuss making friends, appropriate ways to express feelings, and using manners.

"Attendance ROCKS!"

This is a group of students who have struggled with having good school attendance.  They check in with a counselor each morning and are encouraged to be at school, and on time each day.  They are rewarded for improved school attendance.

"Family Differences"

These students all come from unique family situations.  We learn about how all families are different, but none is better than another.  We learn about how love is not determined by the type of family we live in, but by just being ourselves, and accepting who we are and the family we are a part of.
